The World of Aprons

My food travels have recently taken me into the world of aprons and I am astounded by both the online apron enthusiasts and their wonderful collections of aprons and by the huge variety of aprons that are available. I’ve watched amazing videos on how to make aprons, discovered countless wonderful Halloween aprons and even read a lovely children’s book called My Apron by Eric Carle.

If you’ve been hearing rumours about aprons being popular again, you have been hearing correctly. Aprons are making a huge comeback and they are taking the world by storm. There are new books, fiction and non-fiction, like the best-selling The Apron Book,  and hot new aprons like those by Jessie Steele. Boutiques have trouble keeping certain aprons on their shelves and older aprons are collectible and fashionable, too.

Some of this interest in cooking and aprons may have come about because of the explosion of food programs on television and because of movies like Julie and Julia. (Read about the book Julie and Julia by Julie Powel by clicking right here. I have not seen the movie yet because I have not finished the book yet. How about you?)

Anyway, if you haven’t had your apron out in a while, now is definitely the time to dig it out and to wear it! I guess I’ll have to get mine out, too but what I would really like is to have one of the exciting Halloween aprons I found on this page, perfect for greeting the trick-or-treaters at the front door and for serving my family dinner in!  If you have a Halloween apron, I am green with envy! Green seems appropriate for Halloween, don’t you think?

Until next time,
